Turmeric extract is a chemical component extracted from the roots of some plants in the ginger family and Araceae family. Turmeric extract has the following effects:
1. The effect of lowering blood lipids
Curcumin can reduce plasma total cholesterol, β-lipoprotein, triglyceride and hepatobiosterol, and correct the imbalance between α- and β-lipoprotein, but has no effect on endogenous cholesterol. Studies have shown that curcumin can inhibit fatty acid synthesis.
2. Anti-inflammatory effect
Curcumin can counteract toe swelling induced by carrageenan in a dose-dependent range of 30mg/kg, while at a dose of 60mg/kg, this anti-inflammatory effect is inhibited. Curcumin sodium reversibly inhibits nicotine, acetylcholine, 5-hydroxytryptamine, barium chloride, and histamine-induced ileal contraction in isolated guinea pigs, similar to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
3. Disease-resistant microbial action
In vitro test, curcumin has inhibitory effect on mlicrococcus at 1% concentration.
4. Impact on cardiovascular system
Intravenous curcumin had no significant effect on blood pressure, nor on epinephrine, histamine and acetylcholine induced blood pressure. Intragastric administration of curcumin can counteract the changes of S-T and T-wave in electrocardiogram of rats caused by intravenous injection of pituitrin, and can also increase the cardiac nutritional blood flow of mice.
5. Gallbladder effect
Curcumin is beneficial to bile, can increase the production and secretion of bile, and can promote gallbladder contraction, and the effect of curcumin is the strongest.
6. The effect of light effect
Curcumin has a weak bactericidal ability under normal circumstances, but when given light exposure, a microgram of curcumin shows a strong phototoxic reaction. Therefore, curcumin may be used as a photosensitizing drug in the phototherapy of psoriasis, cancer, bacterial and viral diseases. Curcumin also has a stabilizing effect on drugs that are easy to photodissociate. For example, the light stabilization effect of nitrophenyridine is particularly strong, so that its half-life is extended by 6 times, which can enhance its efficacy.
7. Anti-tumor effect
Turmeric extract can inhibit the growth of cancer cells. At 0.4mg/ml, it can inhibit the growth of Chinese hamster ovarian cells, and has cytotoxic effects on lymphocytes and Dalton's lymphocytes, and can reduce the growth of animal tumors, and its active ingredient is mainly curcumin. Therefore, curcumin may act as an anticancer agent.
8. Other functions
Enhances the activity of antioxidant enzymes and is used as a natural quality food additive. In addition, curcumin can improve the phagocytosis of the reticular system and regulate the immunity of the body.
